Friday Fibers.......

I have quilted many Yellow Brick Road quilts - but I have never made one myself.  I thought that it was time to finally make one of these quick and easy patterns.  I picked fat quarters from my stash.... so it was a stash buster, too.  I backed this one with purple Minkee.....No wonder the UFO pile isn't going down - I start new things.... but at least this is quilted and ready for a gift.  The sun has been shining for a few days now... could this be Spring???

UFO completion and Stitchers Angel Swap

I have completed another of my quilting UFO's - Cherry Hill Sampler.... I really enjoyed quilting this one as I did all kinds of doodling on it..... I think this will be a Christmas present for someone...... not sure who tho.....

This picture is of the back of the quilt and gives a better idea of the quilting..... show up really nice to with the red thread on black.....

I can cross this off the UFO list!!!!

I also completed my first project for the Stitcher's Angel group. It is an armchair caddy - the original pattern was for embroidery - but I did silk ribbon embroidery instead.... hope my partner likes it!

Today I am going to poke around the sewing room, clean up and maybe work on some nine-patch fabrics made from vintage fabrics.

Busy Day

Very busy day today... I received my first block in the mail from Blockswap - it is a civil war print and block... and I love it!

Today I am quilting a beautiful quilt designed by my friend, Laurel Francis, of Shaggy Dog Designs. Laurel teaches in Calgary at Fabric Cottage, as well as designs her own patterns. The best thing about quilting for Laurel is that she lets me "do my own thing" - I LOVE IT!! The quilt I am working on today is done in browns and pinks - some of the fabrics reminiscent of civil war fabrics - which I love.... I love free hand quilting the designs on this quilt...

QUILTING HEAVEN.....

I am in quilting heaven right now..... This quilt is my oldest UFO (unfinished object). It is a hand appliqued quilt that I started around 2000 and is called The Country Bride Quilt. At the time I decided to learn to hand applique - didn't know anything about it, but read several books, took a class and magically thought this quilt could be done up in a flash. HA!! Well, after all these years and several stabs at different types of hand applique - freezer paper up and down, glue, needleturn, etc (who knew there were so many types) - this little baby is done!! BUT..... what's the best part of this quilt - NO, not the applique - it's all the blank spaces, blank spaces for wonderful feathers. I cannot wait to get this quilt on the frame to quilt it. I see wonderful feather wreaths in the plain blocks and perhaps more feathers outlining the applique blocks. Many of the fabrics used in this quilt were hand dyed - I bought the hand dyes - at the time i wasn't dying my own fabric like I am now. I have no idea who this quilt will be for. I always thought it would be a wonderful wedding quilt - but, no one in the family is scheduled for a big event, so perhaps it will have to stay in my quilt stash AND another project crossed off the list, but alas, moved to the quilting list! LOL

Enjoy!

11 MONTHS TILL CHRISTMAS!!!

Yes, well, Christmas is my favorite time of the year..... and it always helps to get ahead start on projects, especially in the quilting world. I think perhaps the 3 Stooges quilt will be an '08 Christmas gift.
Today is a quilting day as I have a few customer quilts to get done and better get at it. We are having a lovely "chinook" day in Calgary - which means that we have better than seasonal temperatures. BUT, in the next few days we are back to Winter.

I did spend the day quilting today - and had a great time. My favorite thing in the world is to freehand quilt!! Here's an example of some leaves and vines. I just love to free hand. Most of the quilting that I have done the last two years has been free hand; but, I have had to rethink this lately as I have had many customers who want pantograph designs. So, I have added pantographs to the types of quilting that I do.
