"Another Little Quilt Swap"

I have started making the blocks for the ALQS swap......... I am really enjoying making the blocks because they are the same style of fabric that I love - Civil War repros... not allowed to say who this is for tho..... LOL. This is the first time that I have done a "quilt" swap and I am looking quite forward to making and sending this one.... and... receiving mine.....

Kansas Spirit Sampler Quilt Blocks

I have two more blocks made for my Kansas Spirit Sampler Quilt. The first one is Indian Hatchet. This pattern was often used as a signature or a label block in early quilts.

The second block is Road to California. Pioneers often passed through Kansas on their way to other southwest and west destinations - usually travelling by covered wagons. I imagine many quilt blocks were made on their travels.

New Quilt

I have decided to make a new quilt!! I am currently in a swap on Block Swap and am receiving Civil War Reproduction Quilt Blocks in that swap. I have received my first block and think it is just wonderful. I have decided to make some more blocks from Civil War Reproduction Fabrics to add to the blocks I will be receiving each month. The blocks are from the book, Kansas Spirit, by Jeanne Poore. This book has 15 patterns for Kansas historical quilt blocks and the blocks are given in 6" and 12" sizes - so there is a choice for what size quilt you would like to make. My blocks are 12".

The first block that I have made is called Centennial Star, also known as Autograph and represents the centennial of the state of Kansas. As I receive new blocks I will post them, as well as my "companion blocks"; it should take no time at all to get this quilt going! I just love civil war reproduction fabrics and have been collecting them for a year or so.. I finally have a stash to start this project!

Busy Day

Very busy day today... I received my first block in the mail from Blockswap - it is a civil war print and block... and I love it!

Today I am quilting a beautiful quilt designed by my friend, Laurel Francis, of Shaggy Dog Designs. Laurel teaches in Calgary at Fabric Cottage, as well as designs her own patterns. The best thing about quilting for Laurel is that she lets me "do my own thing" - I LOVE IT!! The quilt I am working on today is done in browns and pinks - some of the fabrics reminiscent of civil war fabrics - which I love.... I love free hand quilting the designs on this quilt...

QUICK LITTLE QUILT

I made this quick little baby quilt over the last few days using a simple block from EQ6 called LeMoyne Single Irish Chain. I really love quilts made from simple blocks - they are one of my favorite type of quilt to make - I guess because they are quick!! I also really like two color quilts - another reason why I love vintage quilts.

I haven't used EQ6 that much but I do enjoy being able to grab a quick block to make a quilt. I have made a couple of other projects on EQ6. The quilt to the left is my Nine-Patch and Leaf Quilt desgined on EQ6. I had taken part in a nine-patch exchange at my guild and designed this pattern to use the nine-patches, but it looks like i will have to make a whole lot more nine-patches for this quilt - I'm about 80 blocks short - LOL.

The other quilt that I designed on EQ6 is a Cival War Quilt - I will use my collection of reproduction fabrics . It will be a scrappy quilt and I am quite happy with this pattern.

Neither one of these quilts are in my UFO list yet, because they are patterns only - I suppose I need a new list - UFO Pattern List! LOL
